            This book is so dark I had serious trouble just reviewing it. The opening chapter has a child, ten years old in the kitchen of the tumbledown shack where he lives. He is going on about life, when the author reveals his step mother is chained by the ankle and cannot get away. The is one of the more uplifting scenes in the dark novel. A dark novel to be sure, but one with the light of the world triumphing over the dark mess Globe has come to call, normal.

            Darrell tells us on the back cover:

“Globe is ten years old, his mother is dead: his father is a serial killer. Globe is an unwilling accomplice to murder.

            Taylor Jackson is a moonshiner, a father and a serial killer. In a jealous rage, he murders his wife in front of their eight-year-old son, Globe. He then replaces her with another and then another. None of them meet his standards. To Globe they are only temporary mothers. He can visit their graves in the pasture, but he dares not love them. His father kills everything Globe loves. Taylor is arrested and escapes. He vows he will kill the only witness to his crimes, his son! Globe realizes the only way to stop his father is to kill him. Taylor lures his son into a trap. It appears that Globe will be the next victim or will he put an end to his father’s murderous spree?”

            Reviewers say, “Awesome,” “Wonderful,” “riveting,” etc. All statements about Hands of the Father are really understated!

            Each page of Hands delves deeper into the depravity of the fallen human heart; of the devastating impact such a heart has on a child. Revulsion is an inadequate word to describe my feelings toward the villain, Taylor Jackson. Yet, God has His ways. I was amazed at how deftly Darrell Case brought Christ into the sordid setting in this best book yet by this prison worker of many years.

Reviewed by Tiffany Davis for Readers' Favorite Sluagh by Darrel Case is a suspenseful story that involves a kid named Max, who was abused as a child by his mother because he resembled his absent from home father. Max seemed to be a typical kid; he wanted to be accepted by everyone. So much so that he decided to go to church for refuge and peace. He was snubbed by one of the members who did not want him around because of his clothes and the fact that he was poor. Max vowed not to return. Throughout the story, Max seemed to be a responsible kid for his age, the only problem is that he wet the bed while sleeping. This part of the story was the hardest to read because the mother would beat Max in an attempt to make him stop urinating in the bed, and it only made his situation even worse. As Max became older, he seemed to become evil as a way of dealing with his own issues; he started to kidnap and kill little boys. As the story takes off, Max moves to a small town to hide out as a pastor of Waynesburg Baptist Church. From the very beginning, the storyline draws the reader in and it's hard not to empathize with the main character, Max. The story jumped right into the plot with the mother always finding reasons to abuse young Max, so much so that each page became more and more intense. Although the storyline was a bit dark, the overall plot was very well written and intense with the killings and the suspense of wondering what will happen next. The story of Max is one that we can all relate to, whether it be ourselves or someone we know. The novel is straightforward and it entices the reader to go even further into the storyline while wondering what will happen next. Overall, the novel is gripping and filled with surprises; it is a very good book to curl up with on a long weekend. For more about my books go to my website

The very souls of those around me depend on our courage. I will stand, realizing the one who stands for righteousness will be shot at by Christians as well as the world.  Satan is my enemy, not God. Christ is the one who gave His life for me. He is my captain. I will follow His command. The love of God compels me to love my fellow man and battle Satan even for those who would take my life. Though the forces of hell assail me, I will stand for the Lord.
