This review is from: Miracle at Coffeeville: And other legends of Christmas (Paperback)
A blessing of Christmas Size Portions!
When Darrell asked if I would read and review this, his newest book. I told him I would even though "Christmas Books" are usually not my cup of tea. "After all, as a Christian, when you have heard/read THE CHRISTMAS STORY... What's really left?

Yikes! My mouth! Of course, after he graciously mailed me his book anyway! And I sat down and...DEVOURED IT!

I immediately emailed him with a much humbled and humiliated attitude, a blessed heart, a rejoicing spirit, and a new excitement and anticipation I haven't had for Christmas in quite a while!

Thank you Bro. Darrell Case for obeying and following God's leading on when to write what next!

Miracle at Coffeeville: And other legends of Christmas

Miracle at CoffeevilleMiracle at Coffeeviller and other legends of Christmas, a wonderful collection of Christmas short stories. I read the entire book in one afternoon - I couldn't put it down! I loved every story, but if I was forced to choose a favorite, it would probably be the story named Snow Angels about a little girl's faith. Every story is short, but packed full of wonderful characters that pull you in immediately. I am giving copies of this book to my family and friends for Christmas this year! (less)

Format: Paperback
I have decided to give this book five stars for such a wonderful selection of Christmas stories that I am sure should bring you into the perfect mood and learn the true meaning of Christmas! Book Review
Larry Lilly’s Journal
 October-2014
Miracle at Coffeeville.

Miracle at Coffeeville and Other Legends of Christmas. Darrell Case, Published by Create Space. 7 Chapters  84 pages $6.95 Amazon and other outlets.
Over the years Darrell has written seven gripping stories about Christmas and now he has put them into this new book especially for the Christmas season. Larry and I usually don’t get overly excited about syrupy stories. Miracle is NOT syrupy Christmas stories, but about real life events around that time of year. In all stories the intervention of the Lord is on display. From a crooked and mean spirited banker during the Great Depression in Coffeeville, a town more famous for bank robbers than robber bankers, God’s hand helps a struggling pastor and town to renewed faith.
Story titles are Miracle at Coffeeville, Christmas Mirror, Angel’s Dust, A Gathering of Angels, Snow Angels, Music of The Night and Apples of Gold. Each story requires a hanky as Darrell weaves you into the story as though you sitting or being insulted by one of the villains. Snow Angel’s will grip your heart as you watch as a child comes to grips with the death of her little brother right at Christmas. Each story is a great life lesson on its own and worth the price of the entire book.
Music in The Night is not about the phantom, but a beautiful account of the grace of Christ of a girl pianist with crippled fingers play music with a touch from God.

You will love this book and probably want to give it as a gift that will endure in the heart of all who read it. Joyce D. Lilly Tg.B

Coming in October Miracle at Coffeeville and other legends of Christmas.

If you are like me, you love the season of Christmas. The festive atmosphere, the tree, the gifts, the
feasting, the songs. People seem to be kinder to each other. Gathering with family and friends. However,
there is a danger. We can become so wrapped up in the celebration; we forget the true meaning of
Christmas. That Christ came to provide for us eternal life. That the babe in the manger was just a prelude
to The Savoir on the cross.
It is my hope this little book will help you recapture the joy of the season. May God bless you and may
you have a wonderful Christmas.
                                                                   Angel’s Dust
For postal worker Jeff Marlow Christmas is just another time to relive the heartache of losing his wife
and daughter. It all ends tonight. Then he finds a letter from a lonely little girl. She asks Santa Claus for
only one gift. Can Jeff overcome his pain and fulfill her wish?
                                                       A Gathering of Angels
Bessie’s life seems to consist of nothing more than existence. Stuck in a nursing home Christmas has
lost its meaning. Bitter, resentful she takes it out on those trying to help. However, God isn’t through with
Bessie. He shows her the meaning of love thy neighbor.
                                                     The Christmas mirror
Steven and Mandy have a matchless love. They fell in love in kindergarten. As husband and wife, their
love for each other has grown deeper. She promises to spend each Christmas Eve with him. Yet a few
days before Christmas Mandy is taken ill and dies. Can the love she has for Steven transcend even death?
Will her love shine through the Christmas mirror?
                                                     Miracle at Coffeeville
The people of Coffeeville are barely surviving the great depression. When it seems nothing worse can
happen Samuel Owens takes over the bank. His hostility and resentment causes him to oppress the
destitute. He unmercifully forecloses on their farms and businesses. He has an alternative. Come to work
for him at starvation wages. The people of Coffeeville pray for a miracle. Will God answer in time? How
can He change the heart of one so wrapped up in hatred?
                                                            Snow angels
Abigail loves her little brother ‘Buddy’. Yet sometimes he is an irritation. When he accidentally dies,
she blames herself. Believing Christ can raise him from the dead, she risks her life in a blizzard. Her
father and the men of their church search for her. Will they find her in time or will there be two caskets to
bury?
                                                 Music of the night
Music is Ruth’s life. When arthritis destroys her gift, she applies a job as a janitor. Now she is
cleaning the very theater where she performed. Hiding in the shadows, she waits until the others leave.
                                                   Apples of Gold
Denver and Anna have a secret. For years, they have lived in a small cabin in the woods. On Christmas
Eve, they will reveal their secret to my wife and I. What they tell us changes our lives and the lives of
others. Tonight we find out we really didn’t know them at all. Soon we discover how much God truly
loves us.

Timex Authors

Many years ago the Timex watch company produced commercials featuring their timepieces. In these ads a watch would be subjected to torturous test. Taped to a baseball bat shot through glass or various other trials. At the end, a camera zoomed in on the watch to prove it was still running.  ‘It took a licking and kept on ticking’ become the motto for the Timex company.
Some authors are like the watches in these advertisements. They were rejected criticized and told they had no talent. However they didn’t listen to the critics. They kept on writing. Today we consider them among the greatest writers and their works classics.

The difference between these authors and 99 percent of those who put their words on paper is they didn’t give up. Pure and simple this is the answer to their success. No hidden secret, no magic formula they didn’t quit. They became flustered they threw their manuscript away picked it out of the wastebasket and kept on. They may have given up for a short period ,however they always returned to the task.

They wrote, revised and revised again until the book was finished. Some authors took rejection letters and torn them up stomping them into the ground others shot them.

Would you consider William Faulkner    unpublishable? What about James Joyce? Jack London papered his walls with rejections all 600 of them. He kept a running tally of the ones who turned down his work. Louis L’Amour  was rejected 350 times. Later Congress awarded him a gold medal. John Creasy 774. One hundred and twenty publishers turned down Chicken Soup for the Soul.C. S. Lewis was turned down 800 times before his writing was sold.

Only 50 copies of Moby Dick were sold During Herman Melville’s lifetime. He died in obscurely. Yet today it is considered a .masterpiece

Often discouraged these authors kept going. Today their   books are still in print.

How would you like to be the agent or publisher who turned down London falkenter Steinbeck or Hemmingway?  Would you kick yourself each time you rest the list of best sellers.

Are you a Timex author? Can you take a beating and still come back for more? When you get knocked down you do get back up? If you do, you have a good chance of being a success.

Imagine That

One of the greatest gifts God gives to a fiction writer is an imagination. With it, He enables us to observe shootouts, car chases, births and deaths. To solve mysteries and relate these events to others. We weave stories together with the joys and sorrows of life. We experience the horror of losing a love one. The elation of falling in love, the conflict of everyday life. We sit at our computer and create new worlds and populate it with our characters.
Imagination is a wonderful asset. With it, engineers build bridges connecting cities spanning vast chasms and rivers. Architects design buildings reaching for the sky. Before a vehicle appears on the showroom floor, it was in someone’s mind. Without Imagination, we would still be living by candlelight with our only form of transportation, a horse and buggy.
As writers, we transmit what we see in our minds to paper or screen. We may go over it a dozen times or more perfecting and clarifying the story. Some believe they can write the story once and it’s perfect.  If you can, you’re very fortunate indeed. For the rest of us, we labor day and night. We struggle over each word, sentence, and page. Writing and rewriting until the story flows. Or as some have put it ‘sings’.
Finally the story is told, the book is finished.  Then as our final act, we offer our novel to the reader hoping to connect with their imagination. Thus, we continue the story we first saw in our mind.

When he is not writing   Darrell is in jail. Actually several jails or prisons.  And he’s been there for over thirty years. As the co-founder of Souls for Christ Darrell ministers to serial killers, mass murderers’ robbers, drug dealers, and others who have broken the law.
Born in 1945 Darrell grew up on his family’s farm. He spent his summers reading and wandering the surrounding woods. Fishing in the neighbor’s pond and in generally learning to love nature
In high school, he perfected the fine art of hiding a novel behind a text book. While the rest of the class labored over equations he sailed the seven seas, followed a snowy trail in the Yukon. Climbed the Rockies, swim the Amazon and fought wars in foreign lands.  In books he discovered worlds far beyond the hot boring classroom.
At age 49 Darrell put pencil to paper and began recording the stories rumbling around in his head. His first book was a howling failure selling a grand total of 6 copies. Not one to give up, he went back to the drawing board. He has since graduated to computer yet he still makes the same mistakes, however now it is easier to correct them.
Through trial and error more error Darrell learned to write. His books have gained many 5 stars from   those who count –his readers.
Folks who have read his books make such statements as: amazing, Could not put the book down, Awesome, this book kept me on the edge of my seat, a riveting story.
However this may not be your opinion. Darrell wants to know what you think. Send him your comments. Good, bad, indifferent. He always likes to hear from his readers.

Send Darrell an email ат   writercase1@frontier.com and tell him what you think.

My life of crime

I sit on the bunk with him. We casually discussed life, this life and the next. The door to his cell was locked. The order was no escape even if he took me hostage. They had analyzed the residue on the odor from the barrel in which he burnt his wife’s body. He would be on trial for his life shortly.
Less than two weeks later his girlfriend would attempt to break him out. In the process, she wounded one deputy. She kept firing spraying bullets over the dispatch area of the jail. In the subsequent trials she would receive 16 years he would get life.igo
That was almost 30 years ago, since then I have ministered to what society considers the most dangerous criminals.  Serial killers, mass murderers, rapists, robbers, drug dealers and others. I have spoken to cop killers and cops who have murdered. Where others see those who are helpless and hopeless, I see a potential child of God. One who can become a new person in Christ.
Using my experience in writing is relaxing and enjoyable. While we can’t control the criminal in the real world we can in the world of fiction. A reader became quite upset with Steven King because in one of his books a man kicked a dog to death. King pointed out the book was fiction. Therefore the dog wasn’t real. Yet to a writer while in the throes of the story the characters, the setting and the action is real.
In Sluagh my wife cringed each time a child died. I pointed out to her the child wasn’t real. Therefore no child was harmed in the writing of the book.
While sitting down with a good mystery may raise the Goosebumps on your arms you’re still safe in your favorite chair.
